I have so many thoughts after this essay, maybe a longform conversation with you someday :D I remember four years back in my msc program, breathing surviving 'underwater', making mistakes, blunders with proofs, projects. I questioned at that moment whether I made the wrong choice. It's all about emotional resilience as you correctly pointed. It is that steep blip/learning curve that ultimately helps.
